About the International Economics Olympiad

The International Economics Olympiad (IEO), was organized by the International Olympic Academy (IOA) and established in 2016 by the Institute of Economic Education (INEV). It quickly emerged as one of the Czech Republic’s most prestigious school competitions. Expanding rapidly, it now engages about 350,000 students globally, transcending its national roots to embrace an international audience.

The Economics Olympiad was led by Vernon L. Smith, an American economist and the winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2002 served as the chairperson of the academic committee. And it garners support both nationally and internationally from esteemed entities like the Ministries of Education, Greece Central Banks, Academic Institutions. The annual global finals are held at the birthplace of the Olympics - Olympia, Greece. The International Economics Olympiad has experienced remarkable growth since its inception, soaring from an initial 4,000 participants in 2017 to nearly 150,000 by 2024, making it the most influential and fastest-growing global academic event.

Starting from 2024, St. Catherine's College, Cambridge, has become the official partner, offering a dedicated economics training program for IEO China gold medalists, led by renowned Cambridge economists teach and provide official certification.
